A QR code cannot hold a file. It holds a link. So the job is in two parts: put the PDF somewhere with a public link, then make the code that opens it. This page does the second part and explains the first.

Put the PDF online for free
- 1. Open Google Drive on your phone or computer and upload the PDF.
- 2. Long press or right click the file and choose Share.
- 3. Change General access from Restricted to "Anyone with the link".
- 4. Keep the role as Viewer, so nobody can edit or delete your file.
- 5. Copy the link and paste it into the form on this page.

Make the PDF easy on a phone

Make and check the code
- 1. Type what the file is, like "Rate list 2026". It gets printed under the code.
- 2. Paste the public link to the PDF.
- 3. Download the PNG at 1024 px for a card or 2048 px for a board.
- 4. Open the code from a phone that is not signed in to your Google account. If the PDF opens, the sharing setting is right.
Common questions
- Can I put the PDF file itself inside the QR code?
- No. A QR code holds a few thousand characters at most, which is nothing next to a PDF. Anything that claims otherwise is really storing your file on a server and putting a link in the code.
- Can I replace the PDF later without printing a new QR?
- Yes, if the link stays the same. On Google Drive, open the file menu and use "Manage versions" to upload the new PDF over the old one. Do not delete and re-upload, because that makes a new link.
- Why does my code open a sign-in page?
- The Drive file is still private. Change sharing to "Anyone with the link" and generate the code again with the fresh link.
- Will the PDF open on an iPhone?
- Yes. Safari opens PDFs on its own, and so does Chrome on Android. No extra app is needed.
- Is Google Drive the only option?
- No. Dropbox, OneDrive, or your own website all work. The only requirement is a link that opens without a login.
