Visiting card maker

This card gets handed over in a room where nobody has time

A professional card is not read on the spot. It goes into a pocket and gets looked at three weeks later, when the person is trying to remember who you were and why they should call you.

So the job of the card is memory, not persuasion. Your name, what you do in three words, and a number that is easy to save.

Fill in your details and watch the card change

Drawing your card...

Optional. JPG, PNG or WebP. It is fitted into the corner at its own shape, so a wide logo stays wide.

The card is 3.5 x 2 inches, the normal Indian visiting card size. 1050 x 600 is 300 dpi, which every press accepts. Ask the printer to keep 3 mm bleed on all sides.

Paper runs out and numbers change. An Ahoyy card is the same card, on a link you can edit.

What earns its space on a professional card

  • Your name, larger than the firm name if you are the one being hired.
  • Your qualification, in the form clients recognise: CA, CS, Advocate, LLB, B.Arch.
  • What you actually do, in three or four words. "GST and income tax filing" beats "financial services".
  • One phone number and one email. Two of each looks unsure.
  • City. Even for online work, people want to know where you sit.
  • Firm registration or bar number, if your body requires it.

Where the card gets exchanged

Client meetingsTwo cards. One for them, one for the person they will refer you to.
Court and registrar officesAdvocates, agents and consultants meet future clients in the queue.
Chamber and association eventsMost professional work comes from other professionals.
Site visitsFor architects, contractors and engineers, the site is the meeting.
Banks and officesLoan and compliance work starts with a counter conversation.

Make your professional card

  1. 1. Put your name in the business name field if you practise under your own name, and the firm name in the tagline.
  2. 2. Add your qualification in the role field, exactly as clients say it.
  3. 3. Keep the services line to four words or fewer.
  4. 4. Pick the dark ink or office blue theme. Professional work reads better in restrained colours.
  5. 5. Keep the vCard QR on. In a meeting, the other person scans it and moves on without typing anything.

Why the QR matters more here than anywhere

Professionals collect cards in stacks and never enter them. Six months later the stack goes in the bin and you were never saved.

A card with a scan-to-save QR gets into the phone book while you are still standing there. That single change is worth more than any design choice on the card.

Common questions

Can advocates and CAs advertise on a visiting card?
Both professions have rules limiting advertising. A card with your name, qualification, address and contact details is normally accepted. Claims and offers are not. Check your own council or bar rules before printing.
Should I put my degree after my name?
Put the one clients recognise. Adding four degrees makes the card look crowded and does not make you more hireable.
Is a personal number or an office number better?
Whichever you will answer within a day. A number that rings out unanswered costs you more than an unglamorous one.
Should the card be in English or in the local language?
English for corporate and city clients. If most of your work is with local shopkeepers or farmers, print the back in the local language.
Do I need a logo?
Not for a one-person practice. Your name in a clean typeface is stronger than a logo made in a hurry.

Be in their phone book, not in their card stack

An Ahoyy card saves your details with one tap and updates when your number or firm changes.
